Ο κύριος στόχος του μαθήματος είναι να βοηθήσει τους προπτυχιακούς φοιτητές να εξοικιωθούν με μία πληθώρα συγγραφικών στυλ και συγγραφέων ανδρών και γυναικών, γνωστότερων και μη, λευκών και έγχρωμων των τελευταίων πέντε δεκαετιών στις Η.Π.Α. Έμφαση θα δοθεί επίσης στην ανάπτυξη ικανοτήτων κατανόησης και κριτικής σε ό,τι αφορά την αξιολόγηση του σύγχρονου θεάτρου.
